As I have a "real" job, I prefer to be working on only one show at a time. This means there are many exciting possibilities which must be forfeited.
Since participating in a few group shows involving a range of media, my interest in sculpture has grown and I am trying to connect my belief that jewellery is sculpture for the body, my lifelong interest in costume, and making sculpture not for the body. It has begun fairly small - nothing above 70 cm or 10 kilograms apiece as yet - but the prospect is scary! For instance, what I saw at the setup of Sculpture in the Gaol in 2009 - huge vehicles with trailers, trolleys, assistants, warehouses... how do sculptors do it? Can I be a sculptor living in the city with a motorbike? My train trip back from the gaol with three stone bowls in a backpack aroused some consternation among the railway staff but did result in my changing to a first class carriage . . .
